Introduction

The senior secondary (SS) curriculum has been implemented since September 2009. The rationale for implementing the SS curriculum is to facilitate the whole-person development of our students to meet the needs of the present knowledge-based society and this echoes the mission of our school. Our students will sit for the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination at the end of the three years of SS curriculum. In our school, other than offering the 4 core subjects (i.e. English Language, Chinese Language, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development), elective subjects in various key learning areas including Chinese Language Education (Chinese Literature); Personal, Social and Humanities Education (Chinese History, Economics, Geography, History, and Ethics and Religious Studies); Science Education (Biology, Chemistry and Physics); Technology Education (Information and Communication Technology; and Business, Accounting and Financial Studies); and Arts Education (Visual Arts) will also be offered. In order to enrich our students’ learning experiences in different areas, Integrated Arts is to be offered in their first senior secondary year of education while Physical Education and Ethics are offered throughout the three years of senior curriculum. Besides, students will be encouraged to get themselves actively involved in other learning experiences (OLE) in these three years and each of them will be issued with a learning profile recording their learning experiences in different aspects throughout the 3 years of senior secondary education along with their HKDSE.

Elective subjects offered

There will be five F.4 classes in the SS curriculum (2022 onwards) in our school. Besides studying Integrated Arts in F.4, all the students have to study Physical Education, Ethics, and the four core subjects: English Language, Chinese Language, Mathematics and Citizenship and Social Development. Generally speaking, they can select three elective subjects. The subjects offered in each class are summarized in Table 2. Visual Arts is offered as the fourth elective open to all students to choose from, with the lessons being held after school or on Saturdays.
