The Inter-School Speech Contest of SKHTST Toastmasters Youth Leadership Program (TYLP) took place on 5 July, 2025 at our Lecture Theatre. There were two events: The Junior Division Prepared Speech and the Senior Division Prepared Speech, both followed by an impromptu question-answer session for each speaker.
The themes of the contest were “No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks” and “The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings” for the Junior and the Senior Divisions respectively.
For the Junior Division (Primary 5 to Form 1), there were six contestants from six different schools. They were Dr. Catherine F. Woo Memorial School, KCBC Hay Nien (Yan Ping) Primary School, HKCCCU Logos Academy, S.K.H. Ma On Shan Holy Spirit Primary School, Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School and our school.
In the Senior Division (Form 2 to Form 4), seven different schools participated in the contest. They were Ho Fung College, HKTA Tang Hin Memorial Secondary School, Pentecostal Lam Hon Kwong School, Shun Lee Catholic Secondary School, S.K.H. Lam Kau Mow Secondary School, Yuen Long Merchants Association Secondary School and our school.
We were greatly honoured to have six judges, namely, Ms. Ivy CHEUNG, Mr. Pong LEUNG, Ms. Winnie LOW, Ms. Bella SANUSI, Mr. Carfield TANG with Ms. Deborah YU as the Chief Judge, adjudicating the contest.
Our principal Ms. Maggie LAM thanked all judges for their adjudication and most valuable written comments given to all contestants. To add spice to the contest, the audience members were invited to vote for The Most Interesting Speaker out of the 19 contestants on their mobile device. Four students in the audience also volunteered to take part in the Table Topics Session giving an impromptu speech.
Our TYLP, in its fifth year of establishment, was greatly encouraged by the 70 attendees at the Inter-School Speech Contest composed of teachers, parents and students from participating schools as well as our students, English teachers and TYLP members.

The Inter-School Speech Contest is the culmination of our eight TYLP meetings from February to May 2025. The meetings were attended by 51 members comprising Primary 5 to 6 students, 12 junior form students (Forms 1 to 3) and 26 senior students (Forms 4 to 5) from three primary schools and two secondary schools, ours included. As a learning community, students volunteered for different roles such as MCs, speakers of prepared or impromptu speeches, evaluators, secretaries of evaluators and facilitators (timers and ah-counters).
Adding to the excitement in each meeting was the Voting for the Best Speakers by all members. Most inspiring were also the workshops given by different Toastmasters International members and their General Evaluation. Our deepest gratitude goes Mr. Chih AU, Ms. Ivy CHEUNG, Ms. Emily HO, Ms. Winnie LOW, Ms. Joy PAMNANI, Ms. Rachel SHIEFF and Mr. Daniel WONG for devoting their Friday afternoons to having meetings with us.
Special thanks also go to our retired former Vice Principal Mrs. Anne TAM, three current teachers Mr. LAM Ka Chun (Chief Advisor), Ms. HAI Wan Man, and Mr. Nathan MARTIN, and two alumni Ms. Philana CHAN and Ms. Bonnie WONG serving as Workshop speakers and Language Masters in the meetings.
