2009 Amity Charity Dinner
| Dear Friends,Unite to Rebuild Lives in SichuanThe 5.12 Sichuan Earthquake has taken nearly 70,000 lives, with many still missing and presumed killed. Homes for millions have been destroyed and the loss to property is so enormous as to defy accurate estimation. My visits to badly-hit areas in Sichuan over the last few months have confirmed our worst fear that it will take years to rebuild the houses, infrastructure and the basic necessities in life for millions of people.
The Amity Foundation was one of the first few organizations to arrive at the scene on that fateful day. Ever since, we have been at the forefront providing direly needed relief to the victims in the worst hit areas such as Wenchuan, Beichuan, Mianzhu, Shefang, Pengzhou, Dujiangyen, etc. With your generous donations and the support from many well-wishers in Hong Kong and overseas, we have been providing relief and initial rehabilitation to over 400,000 of our compatriots. To date, over HK$10 m have been applied to such efforts and Amity’s reconstruction works are underway. To this end, we intend to raise HK$50 m to support the rebuilding of houses and the water supply systems in Woyun Village, the reconstruction of a primary school inQingchun County, and a church and social service facilities in Mianzhu, Sichuan.
You continued support to our united effort will make a difference in bringing back hope and laughter to our brothers and sisters in these areas.
As part of this campaign, we are organizing a dinner for Saturday, 9 May 2009 at the Mira Hotel, Tsimshatsui. The programme will include international cultural performances, a first-class magic show, songs by celebrated groups, and music by a rock band. The highlight of the evening will be an auction where rare items put under the gavel will include the special Bible commemorating the printing of the 60th million copy by our Amity Printing Company in Nanjing. You are cordially invited to join us on this special occasion combining charity and entertainment. You are also welcome to spread the word around so more could take part in this meaningful event.
Attached are the poster with the necessary details and other materials to enable you to join in this united effort. Please feel free to contact us at (852) 2723 8011 if you need more information.
Looking forward to your favourable reply,
