On 18 March 2021, CHAN Yeuk Hei (5D) and FUNG Wai Ching (5E), our two Arts Ambassadors-in-School of the scheme organized by the HKADC shared their views on art appreciation during the whole-school Assembly alongside our Alumni Association Executive Committee Member, Monnie WONG (2009 graduate) who graduated from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.

Through interesting conversations and thought-provoking analysis of famous artworks, they presented different ways to see arts, especially through scientific methods.  They introduced the styles of well-known artists including Vincent van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Jackson Pollock and Wu Guanzhong.  By comparing their techniques, the speakers explained how artists could inspire and learn from one another.  In the hope of drawing the attention of students who are more interested in science than arts, they described the major materials of paintings – egg tempera and oil paint.  Technical examinations such as infra-red reflectography and microscopic magnification were also mentioned to demonstrate how important science is to understand artworks.

At the end of the sharing, our Arts Ambassadors explained their duties to promote arts and gave their fellow students a glimpse of art-related activities in the near future.  Monnie ended the presentation by encouraging students to visit art museums and galleries more often to understand how arts relate to our society.
